Zakopane (Kasprowy Wierch), Poland

Tatry, Podhale

Runs by difficulty

  • blue 0.4 km
  • black 5.8 km

The split comes from OpenStreetMap. A run with no difficulty tag falls into none of the three bars, so they can add up to less than the resort total.

This is a geographic map, not the painted panorama a resort publishes: the runs are where they really are, but the mountain is not drawn as a bird’s-eye view.

The lifts usually run here from 12 Dec to 18 Apr, and that is the span of the chart. Dates published by the resort, checked 2026-08-15.

average snowfall, cm/month threshold: 70 % of the snowiest month

quiet moderate holiday peak too little snow or outside the holiday calendar snowy and quiet

The colours under the axis show school-holiday traffic per week of winter 2026/2027, from the holidays chapter — the curve is a long-term average, the traffic is this one season. A green band marks a quiet week in a month with at least 70 % of the snowiest month’s snowfall. This season: 7 Dec – 20 Dec, 4 Jan – 17 Jan, 1 Feb – 14 Feb.

This is snowfall, not snow depth on the slope: it says how much usually falls in a given month, not how much lies there. The measuring point sits close to the valley floor, so higher up it snows more.

Lifts

Names and types from OpenStreetMap. Unnamed lifts are left out of this list, so it can be shorter than the count at the top of the page.

  • Kolej krzesełkowa Gąsienicowa chairlift
  • Kolej linowa Kasprowy Wierch - odcinek II cable car

Places to stay by the lift

Distance is measured in a straight line to the base station of the nearest lift. No booking site publishes that number — it comes from matching accommodation against lift geometry.

  • 4 within 300 m
  • 4 within 1 km
  • 1,325 places in the valley

The closest one stands 72 m from a lift.

Is Zakopane (Kasprowy Wierch) worth it?

Kasprowy Wierch is the highest lift-served skiing in Poland -- from Kuźnice in Zakopane a cable car lifts you to 1,987 m, into the heart of the Western Tatras. There is no town at the foot of the slope and no line of drag-lifts along a road: two bowls, Gąsienicowy and Goryczkowy, above the tree line, are the whole offer.

In our measurement from OpenStreetMap it comes to about 6 km of pistes -- the smallest in this set, and not by accident. This is high-mountain terrain, almost all of it hard, with no beginner runs and no snowmaking. The snow is whatever falls, and avalanches can close the descents for days at a time.

The top station stands at 1,958 m and the lower lift ends drop to around 1,350 m. The season here is longer than in the valley -- snow at this height often holds into May, though the weather can shut the cable car from one day to the next.

The price we give is a one-day adult ticket -- 139 PLN from the high-season rate list (checked 14 August 2026). Check prices with the operator before you travel. The drive from Poland is, per OpenStreetMap, about 370 km from Wrocław, 180 from Katowice and 107 from Kraków.
