Is Štrbské Pleso worth it?

Štrbské Pleso is a resort above the glacial Tatra lake of the same name, on the Slovak side of the High Tatras. It sits high, at around 1,350 m, and is known for sunny, open slopes and for its Nordic base -- the cross-country trails and ski jumps that have hosted World Cup events start here.

In our measurement from OpenStreetMap it comes to about 7 km of downhill pistes. This is a small, mostly family slope, linked by chairlifts, easy to learn on and to cruise, with one of the best views in the Tatras behind it.

The resort begins high up, so the snow holds well and snowmaking closes out the season -- it usually runs from December to April.

The lift-pass price at Štrbské Pleso is dynamic -- the resort sets it by day and by how far ahead you buy, cheaper in advance, so we give no single figure; check it with the operator as you book. The drive from Poland is, per OpenStreetMap, about 423 km from Wrocław, 234 from Katowice and 161 from Kraków.
