Is Ski Gastein (Bad Gastein) worth it?

Ski Gastein is skiing above a thermal valley. The Stubnerkogel and Schlossalm slopes rise straight above the spa towns of Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein, so a day on snow often ends in hot springs — a combination most Alpine resorts do not have. The whole area sits within the large Ski amadé pass, which links dozens of resorts across Salzburg and Tyrol.

In our measurement from OpenStreetMap it comes to about 97 km of pistes, split evenly between easy and intermediate; there are few blacks. This is terrain for quietly clocking up kilometres on well-groomed slope rather than hunting steep faces.

The lift climbs to 2,304 m and the lower stations sit at around 1,092 m, so the vertical is large and the snow up high holds well. The season usually runs from December to mid-April.

Within Ski amadé the ski pass is sold dynamically — the price depends on the date and how early you buy, so no single figure would be true. Check prices with the operator before you travel. The drive from Poland is one of the shortest in this set: about 750 km from Wrocław, 780 from Katowice, 855 from Kraków.
