What makes Passo Tonale different
Passo Tonale does not sit in a valley but on the pass itself — a broad, treeless saddle at close to 1,900 m where the border between Trentino and Lombardy runs. The slope starts just beyond the hotel door and drops off both sides, with no forest to block the view. It is a different kind of skiing from Folgarida tucked among its firs: here you are high and in the open straight away.
The altitude shows in the snow. The pass and the Presena glacier above it hold cover when lower stations run short — in the climate model November brings about 121 cm of snowfall, and March and April still 90–100 cm each, so the ski season opens in late November and runs into early May. Of all the Val di Sole resorts this is the most snow-sure.
There is plenty of terrain: 116 runs and 31 lifts — 19 chairs and 7 gondolas. The grading is even, leaning red: 46 blue, 57 red, 13 black. This is a hill for skiers who already turn confidently and want the kilometres, though beginners and families will find their own wide runs by the pass.
Passo Tonale is skied on the Adamello Ski (Pontedilegno-Tonale) pass, shared with neighbouring Ponte di Legno on the Lombardy side. The pricing here is unusual — alongside day passes there are hour-based tickets and variable "smart skipass" discounts. A day pass in high season costs €58 (the resort's pricelist, checked August 2026) — check prices with the operator before you travel, as they change each season. From Poland the drive to Passo Tonale runs through Austria and the Brenner: about 1,090 km from Katowice, 1,170 from Kraków, 1,400 from Warsaw.
