What makes Folgaria different
Folgaria sits on the Alpe Cimbra — a gentle plateau in southern Trentino, closer to Verona than to any glacier. It is the calmest end of Italian skiing: instead of steep walls you get wide, open fields above the town and a run cut into the slope of Monte Cornetto. The name "Cimbra" comes from the Cimbrian minority who settled here centuries ago and still speak their own Germanic dialect.
This is a mountain for learning to ski and for families. Of 77 runs, 49 are blue, 23 red and only 4 black, and among the 32 lifts there are nine magic carpets — as many as some resorts built purely for beginners. Anyone making their first turns or arriving with small children will find more room here than in the high, steep Alps; anyone chasing black runs will get through those four quickly.
The gentleness comes at the cost of altitude. The plateau lies lower and warmer than the high passes, so there is less natural snow and the season can be shorter. The runs rely on snowmaking, so check conditions before you travel — on the Alpe Cimbra the weather can eat the snow from below.
The ski pass is the Skiarea Alpe Cimbra (Folgaria-Lavarone). A six-day adult pass in high season costs €284 (the resort's official pricelist, checked August 2026), about €47 a day — and it includes a day each at Paganella and Monte Bondone. Check prices with the operator before you travel, as they change each season. From Poland the drive runs through Austria and the Brenner: about 1,070 km from Katowice, 1,150 from Kraków, close to 1,380 from Warsaw.
