Is Špindlerův Mlýn worth it?

Špindlerův Mlýn is the best-known ski resort in the Czech Republic, on the far side of the Krkonoše from the Polish towns of Karpacz and Szklarska Poręba. It sits in the Elbe valley, where two slopes meet -- Medvědín and Svatý Petr -- covering the mountains on both sides of the valley with lifts and cable cars.

In our measurement from OpenStreetMap it comes to about 15 km of pistes. This is no vast Alpine system, but the sectors are well covered by snowmaking, and the descent from Medvědín is among the longer in this part of the Sudetes. The runs are mostly intermediate.

The slopes reach the Krkonoše ridge above 1,200 m, so there is more snow here than lower in the valleys, and snowmaking closes out the season. It usually runs from December to March.

The lift-pass price at Špindlerův Mlýn is dynamic -- the resort sets it by day and by how far ahead you buy, cheaper in advance, so we give no single figure; check it with the operator as you book. The drive from Poland is, per OpenStreetMap, about 172 km from Wrocław, 351 from Katowice and 426 from Kraków.
