Runs by difficulty

  • blue 104.9 km
  • red 73.0 km
  • black 12.2 km

The split comes from OpenStreetMap. A run with no difficulty tag falls into none of the three bars, so they can add up to less than the resort total.

This is snowfall, not snow depth on the slope: it says how much usually falls in a given month, not how much lies there. The measuring point sits close to the valley floor, so higher up it snows more.

Places to stay by the lift

Distance is measured in a straight line to the base station of the nearest lift. No booking site publishes that number — it comes from matching accommodation against lift geometry.

  • 34 within 300 m
  • 76 within 1 km
  • 88 places in the valley

The closest one stands 40 m from a lift.

Is Obertauern worth it?

Obertauern sits differently from most Austrian resorts: not in a valley with a lift up, but on the Tauern pass itself, at around 1,740 m. The town stands at slope level and the lifts form a ring around the bowl, so a day can be laid out as a full circuit of the valley, ending back where you started.

In our measurement from OpenStreetMap it comes to about 93 km of pistes, weighted toward easy and intermediate runs; there are few blacks. This is terrain for people who want to ski a lot of reliable, well-groomed slope rather than hunt steep faces.

The altitude of the pass makes Obertauern one of the more snow-sure resorts in Austria — it lies higher than many neighbouring valleys, so snow arrives early and holds late, sometimes into early May.

We give the ski pass as a six-day adult ticket: €368 from the resort's high-season rate list (checked 13 August 2026). Check prices with the operator before you travel. The drive from Poland is one of the shortest in this set: about 747 km from Wrocław, 692 from Katowice, 767 from Kraków.
