When to go
A ten-winter average, computed from a weather archive for a point at 1,946 m above sea level.
Average snowfall per month, in centimetres.

| night | -5° | -9° | -11° | -8° | -6° | -3° |
This is snowfall, not snow depth on the slope: it says how much usually falls in a given month, not how much lies there. The measuring point sits close to the valley floor, so higher up it snows more.

What makes Hintertuxer Gletscher different
The Hintertuxer Gletscher is the only glacier in Austria open all year round — you can ski here in summer too, and the winter season is a formality here, not a weather gamble. The resort lies at the head of the Zillertal, and the lifts carry you up toward the Gefrorene Wand, above 3,200 m. If what you want in this set is a place where the snow is certain, with no "if winter delivers", this is it.
The terrain runs from the glacier at the top down to the valley base stations, mostly on blue and red runs — there are genuinely few blacks. This is a wide, open mountain for confident skiers and for families, without narrow steep bottlenecks. On the glacier itself you can walk into the Natur Eis Palast, a natural cave in the ice, and in winter the ticket also covers the neighbouring slopes of the Ski- & Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000.
Snow is never in short supply here. The weather model gives the lower mountain around 131 cm in December and 116 in November, but the point is higher up: the glacier holds its cover regardless of what happens in the valleys. This is the resort you aim for when you want snow guaranteed — at the start of the season, in a thin winter, or long into spring.
The pass is the Hintertux glacier ticket: the 6-day adult costs €399 in the 2026/27 season (the resort's official pricelist, checked August 2026, a fixed price); in winter it is additionally valid on the neighbouring Zillertal 3000 slopes. Check prices with the operator before you travel, as they change each season. The drive from Poland runs through Czechia and Innsbruck deep into Tyrol — about 771 km from Wałbrzych, 876 from Katowice, 899 from Wrocław, 952 from Kraków.
