Is Bansko worth it?

Bansko lies in the Pirin mountains of south-western Bulgaria, below the peak of Todorka. It is the most modern Bulgarian resort: a long gondola climbs from the historic town on the valley floor, and the pistes themselves begin high up, above it.

In our measurement from OpenStreetMap it comes to about 30 km of pistes, mostly intermediate, with a few steeper runs below Todorka. The resort is often chosen on price -- lift passes and lodging are markedly cheaper here than in the Alps.

The runs reach high into the Pirin massif, above 2,000 m, so there is plenty of snow and the season is among the longer in the Balkans -- usually from December to April.

The price we give is a one-day adult ticket -- €59 from the main-season rate list (checked 14 August 2026); the operator quotes it in both euros and leva. Check prices with the operator before you travel. The drive from Poland is, per OpenStreetMap, about 1,636 km from Wrocław, 1,491 from Katowice and 1,433 from Kraków.
