Runs by difficulty

  • blue 64.7 km
  • red 35.4 km
  • black 31.2 km

The split comes from OpenStreetMap. A run with no difficulty tag falls into none of the three bars, so they can add up to less than the resort total.

This is a geographic map, not the painted panorama a resort publishes: the runs are where they really are, but the mountain is not drawn as a bird’s-eye view.

Prices are dynamic — they depend on the day you ski and how early you buy, so there is no single number to give. Check the resort’s price list.

This is snowfall, not snow depth on the slope: it says how much usually falls in a given month, not how much lies there. The measuring point sits close to the valley floor, so higher up it snows more.

Places to stay by the lift

Distance is measured in a straight line to the base station of the nearest lift. No booking site publishes that number — it comes from matching accommodation against lift geometry.

  • 1 within 300 m
  • 12 within 1 km
  • 59 places in the valley

The closest one stands 216 m from a lift.

Is Åre worth it?

Åre has hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships three times -- most recently in 2019 -- and it is Sweden's largest ski resort. It sits above the frozen Lake Åresjön, at the foot of Åreskutan, a mountain that rises straight from the shore. The climate is Nordic: cold, with a short day in midwinter and long light in spring.

In our measurement from OpenStreetMap it comes to about 170 km of pistes. The balance is gentle, but there is more hard terrain than in most Alpine areas of this size -- the Störtloppet World Cup downhill runs through here. There is enough both for beginners and for those after something steep.

The mountain is low by Alpine standards -- the lakeshore sits at around 400 m and the summit of Åreskutan at around 1,275 m -- but its far-northern position gives a long season and cold, dry snow. Skiing usually runs from December into early May.

The lift-pass price at Åre is dynamic -- the operator, SkiStar, sets it by date and demand, so we give no single figure; check it with the operator as you book. The drive from Poland is long: per OpenStreetMap about 2,411 km from Wrocław, 2,590 from Katowice and 2,666 from Kraków.
